More and new programmes for ICT Month 2012

KOTA KINABALU: More programmes have been added to the Sabah ICT Month 2012 in view of the good response from participants, organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai said Sabah ICT Month 2012, which is in its sixth year, has new and innovative programmes some of which are aimed at developing entrepreneurship and creativity of society.

Yee, who is also Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology, said the programmes involved not only the elderly, but also primary school children.

Besides, programmes will also be held in rural centres such as e-Desa for the communities to take part in the activities.

“One of the objectives of ICT Month is to help implement the policy of the government, namely to increase ICT awareness and to do it statewide so that everyone in the state are aware of the potential of ICT,” he said at the launching of the Sabah ICT Month here yesterday.

Programmes carried out in the rural centres during ICT Month also fit into the ongoing programme of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) whereby MCMC provided free laptops for people throughout the state in efforts to enable them to become more ICT savvy, Yee added.

The main objective of Sabah ICT Month is to commemorate and recognize the ICT initiatives undertaken by various stakeholders and ICT players in the state over the years.

A total of 25 activities are being organized during Sabah ICT Month 2012, themed ‘Digitalizing Sabah: Creating the Wave 2.0’.

The activities are targeted at students, youths, senior citizens, women, rural communities, ICT industry players and Sabahans in general.

Among the activities to be held are TEXpo Asia, technorama-iT Fiesta, digital story telling, Sabah Got Ideas, Sabah digital education film festival, computer camp for the G-Oldies, ICT Fiesta and much more.

The highlight of Sabah ICT Month will be the ICT Gala Night to recognize that stakeholders have made the event a success. The event is expected to be attended by 450 guests.

The public is welcome to take part in the various activities held in the month of ICT.

Sabah ICT Month 2012 is organized by the Ministry of Resource Development and Information Technology in collaboration with MCMC Sabah and Labuan F.T. regional office, State Computer Services Department, Sabah Education Department, KKIPC Sdn Bhd, Sabah Computer Society, Sabah Techpreneur Association (SATA), PIKOM Sabah Chapter and Sabah West Coast Entrepreneur Network Association (SEA).

Also present at the launching were Bukhari Yahya, director of MCMC Sabah and Labuan F.T. Regional Office and Bruno Vun, permanent secretary to the ministry.
