KAPIT: Fourteen teams comprising one hundred badminton enthusiasts from various government departments and statutory agencies are taking part in the three-day ‘Inter-Team/Department and Individual’ badminton competition organised by Kapit District Council Sports and Recreational Club at Bletih Stadium here.

The badminton tourney was officiated by walikota of Kapit, Philimon Nuing on Nov 2.

Meanwhile, the road transport department of Kapit (JPJ) is set to host the inaugural ‘Kapit Resident Challenge Trophy Inter-Departments’ futsal competition on Nov 7 to 9 at the Bletih Stadium here.

“The response received is overwhelming. It was beyond expectation of the organiser. Our target is only for 10 teams. Now twenty-seven teams have so far registered with us. We have no choice but to reject the late comers.

“This is the first time we organise the competition and it is going to be an annual event under Maksak Kapit Division,” informed organising chairman Mohd Harra.

“Obviously futsal is very popular among the civil servants here. I observed that not only men play futsal as ladies also are involved. Last year, the Maksak Kapit’s ladies team won third place in the State level Inter-Division Maksak Competition.

“The government encouraged civil servants to actively participate in outdoor activities such as futsal to promote healthy lifestyle”, he added.
