KUCHING: The second day of the SPDP Mambong football tournament ended with five matches played at the Siburan mini stadium yesterday.
Among the results for yesterday (Nov 4) are team Croc Comel thrashing Sekama 7-0 in the open category followed by the Hann FC versus Kampung Sinjok 10 Union team match in which Hann FC giving the latter a walk-over.
In the third match, Alfia team won a penalty shoot out 5-4 over Kampung Simbuh team. The match had to go through a decider as the match was tied 1-1 until extra time.
During the first day, Team SPDP Mambong veteran went on a rampage when they thrashed team Araki team 8-1.
Playing in the veteran’s category of the tournament, Team SPDP Mambong has six former-state players playing for them namely Ramles Sari, Ramos Sari, Bobby Pian, and Louis Jakai. Team SPDP scored seven goals in the first half alone.
A total of 10 teams are vying for the veteran’s title while 30 teams are competing in the open category. Both categories kicked-off on Saturday.
SPDP Tarat chairman Miron Ganguly who is also the team manager of team SPDP Mambong veteran was present to officiate at the tournament’s opening ceremony with SPDP vice president Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan Sirat.
“The veterans category is only opened to those who are 40-years-old and above. The open category on the other hand is initially limited to 20 teams, but we had to accept another 10 teams due to the overwhelming response,” commented tournament organising chairman Tender Mojig.
All winners will receive cash prizes, medals and trophies.
