DEADLY GUNSHOT: The table where the victims were having their lunch when a shot was fired at them from close range.

SIBU: Police are hot on the heels of perpetrators of the daylight shooting incident at a coffee shop in Pahlawan Road on Saturday which claimed a woman’s life.

They are also tracking down the car used by the criminals during the gunfire and working to unearth the motive behind the murder.

The police found 12 gunshot marks at the blind, column and the wall of the coffee shop.

They also found a pellet at the crime scene.

It is understood that a person, surnamed Wong, had called 911 which was received in Kuching shortly after the shot was fired.

Kuching police then alerted Sibu police who arrived at the scene within 10 minutes.

Three victims had already been sent to Rejang Medical Centre when the police arrived.

Law Leh Kuong, 44, was hit by stray pellets in the head while having lunch at the coffee shop at 11.50am but she died later in the afternoon on the same day.

The woman, her husband Lau Ngik Yin, 42, also known as Ah Kang, her husband’s male cousin and his spouse, along with a male friend, were seated at the same table when the incident happened.

One shot was fired at them from a shotgun from within 20 feet and the pellets also hit Ah Kang and his cousin’s wife but both of them only sustained light injury.

Four men in a red Proton Wira Aeroback pulled up at the coffee shop. Two alighted and one of them fired a shot at the group from close range.
