Rhodium bounces back in style

FIRST WIN: Peace Pipe (Roslan Bujang) drawing away from Natural Beauty (E Hamid) to score its maiden win in Race Two.

KUCHING: Champion pony Rhodium snapped a three-race losing streak with a commanding comeback victory in Race Five (Class 1 – 1000M) on Sunday.

The six-year-old grey, which had one third placing and two unplaced runs in its last three starts, bounced back in great style to whip the top class field by 7 1/2 lengths on the bid.

Taken wide by Roslan Bujang in search of firmer ground for the run home, the Berjaya Stable’s galloper kicked clear past the 200M, drawing away to win in a canter from Money Come (B Jamain) with Zorro (W Maruf) third, a neck away.

Rhodium, trained by Tamizi Putut, paid RM18.

Peace Pipe got off the mark when it the came with a late run to score its maiden win in Race Two (Class 4 – 1000M).

Given every chance by Roslan Bujang, the three-year-old, switched to the outside for better ground, hit the front with 100M to go, striding out strongly to score by 3 1/2 lengths from Natural Beauty (Hamid Ellie) with Sunshine Harvest (J Azizi) third, four lengths further back.

Peace Pipe, owned by W Stable, was the first leg of a double for trainer Tamizi Putit. It paid RM29 and RM13.

Princess Alicia showed its class by easily winning Race Four (Class II – 1000M).

The six-year-old grey had the field covered coming into the homestraight, collaring front-running stablemate Princess Amanda (Mazlan Bujang) 150M out before breaking away to win by two lengths on a tight hold.

Raja Muda (P Othman) was third, a neck away.

Princess Alicia, owned Sylvester Hon and trained by Lee Moi Fong, was the second leg of a treble for Roslan Bujang. It paid RM9.

Edmund Sim also saddled a double with Magic Killer (E Rodi) in Race One (Class 5 – 1000M) and Naga Laut (Jasmi Kamar) in Race Three (Class 3 – 1000M).

Magic Killer caught front-running Big Chief (P Othman) in the closing stages to win by 2 lengths, paying RM23.

Sarawak Time (Jasmi Kamar) finished third, 2 lengths adrift.

Naga Laut made the running all the way, and apart from a

brief challenge from the runner-up Sofia’s Pet (E Hamid) in the final stretch, was untroubled, going to the post with 2 1/2 lengths to spare.

Royal Command (Roslan Bujang) was nosed out in third place.

The three-year-old came with a big run on the outside but left it too late to affect the outcome of the race.

The going was yielding.
