SMK Demak Baru honours their Paralympians

KUCHING: State Paralympian, Nur Syazwani Merais was honoured with an exemplary award by SMK Demak Baru recently for her contribution in sports and extra-curricular activities.

The 19-year-old special education classes (PPKI) student won a bronze in the recent national Paralympic 10-pin bowling championship held in Melaka.

She also won bronze in the same event in 2010 and gold in the state level Special Olympics in Sibu the same year.

In this year’s state sports meet for special athletes, Syazwani was the shot putt champion.

SMK Demak Baru also presented exemplary prize to Muhd Zul Adly Majeni after winning the national level best PPKI student award which he will receive in the presentation ceremony to be held at Batu Pahat, Johor later this year.

Among his achievements this year was having represented Sarawak in the recent national 3rd 1Malaysia track and field meet for special students held in Perlis.

Meanwhile, the best academic achievement award was presented to16-year-old Mohd Qamarrul Izzat Mohd Sani won for scoring 1A, 6Bs and 1Cs in the recent PMR examinations.

The three award winners received their prizes from Kuching district education officer, Juita Senawi and their principal Fatimah Hamid.
