Earthworm breeder charged with illegal offer of shares

KUANTAN: An earthworm entrepreneur pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here yesterday to a charge of offering shares in an earthworm breeding scheme without the approval of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) under the Companies Act 1965.

Nazri Mamat, 38, of Kampung Pandan 1, near here, allegedly offered the scheme to the public without the approval of a deed by CCM, at his premises, Restu Rimbunan Rahmat Sdn Bhd, at Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Kampung Pandan 1, in Kuantan.

He faces five years in prison or a fine of RM100,000 or both upon conviction under Section 91(1) of the same act.

Judge Mohd Azhar Othman set bail at RM5,000 with one surety, ordered the accused’s passport to be impounded and fixed Dec 10 for the hearing.

CCM prosecuting officer Lidia Fyrulliza Ishak prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
