Local man in jail for breaking into houses of sister and mother and stealing

TAWAU: A 32-year-old local man was sentenced to a total of 26 months’ jail and four strokes of the cane by a Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for house-breaking and stealing from his sister and mother.

Senior court registrar Ferhansha Farene Mohd Ferdaus meted out the sentence on Muszaini bin Musa who pleaded guilty to charges under Section 457 and 379 of the Penal Code for house-breaking and stealing.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Joan Lee told the court that the accused broke into his sister’s house at Kampung Tanjung Batu Darat, behind Taman Ria 6 about 5pm on October 10 this year and stole a 21-inch Panasonic television, an Aiwa CD player, three golf clubs and two woks. The stolen goods worth about RM2,800.

And on October 29 at about 11am, the accused stole four Korea gold bracelets worth about RM100 from his mother’s stall behind Pasaraya Parkwell, Ho Hwang Kim Road. He sold the bracelets to an unidentified person at the old bus terminal.

The accused was detained about 10.30pm on October 30 during a police raid at Taman Ria 3. He had two previous convictions in Penang and one in Tawau and was ordered to serve the sentence separately.

In the Sessions Court, an Indonesian woman was sentenced to four months’ jail and ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation for using a fake MyKad.

Judge Egusra Ali meted out the sentence on Siti Fatimah bte Toha, 31, who pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act which provides not more than five years’ imprisonment and fine of not more than RM10,000 and liable to cane.

The accused was caught using MyKad 810904-12-5346 under the name of Noor Hazlinah bte Ajile at the Tawau Airport arrival counter about 2.55pm on November 2.

She admitted buying the MyKad from a manager for RM550 and used it to enter Tawau from Kuala Lumpur.
