Shoplot, live cattle beckons winners at Damai Golf and Country Club

KUCHING: The challenging yet picturesque fairways and greens of Damai Golf and Country Club will once again play host to the eagerly awaited Datuk Haji Talib Zulpilip Golf Challenge Trophy tournament this Nov 10-11.

The silverware is named after Datuk Talib Zulpilip, the assistant minister of Tourism and chairman of SEDC Sarawak and the event is a “must play tournament” on a “must play golf course”.

All golf enthusiasts here in Sarawak are welcomed to register themselves for the tournament.

“In addition to attractive prizes for the winners, other fantastic prizes are also up for grabs for hole-in-one winners such as an office space unit located at SEDC’s shoplot property in Kota Samarahan valued at RM109,000.

“Winners will also be given two days and one night stay at Damai Beach Resort’s signature Bidayuh Baruk Suite (valued at RM 1,200) plus live cattle from SEDC’s cattle farm in Australia,” club general manager Zulkifli Othman revealed.

“With the Damai Golf and Country Club, we have one of the best golf courses here in Sarawak. This competition is also one of the prestigious golf tournaments here in the state,” he added.

Zulkifli added that the event is an annual affair and is held for two days.

“Besides being an excellent opportunity for a get-together, the event has been organised as a gesture of our appreciation for the support rendered by the club members, clients, associates, affiliates and other related parties to SEDC Sarawak and its subsidiaries. I can’t wait for this event to start,” said Zulkifli.

He continued that the first day of the tournament is open to SEDC members and the public while the second day event is upon invitation only.

A total of 180 golfers are expected to participate in the competition.

For the record, the Damai Golf and Country Clubs has been featured as one of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World by Golf Digest Magazine, Taiwan (for May 2010) and was voted as one of the Top 10 Golf Courses in East Malaysia by the Readers’ Poll carried out by the Golf Malaysia Magazine (2011/2012 period).

Zulkifli personally thinks that it will be a great chance for local golf enthusiasts to showcase their skill and win great prizes at the competition this coming weekend.
