SIBU: A septuagenarian is so far the oldest participant of this year’s Borneo Talents Award to be held at Sibu Civic Centre here from Nov 22 to 25.

Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman Daniel Ngieng said the 74-year-old local man has confirmed his participation in the competition that is open to all Malaysians.

“The youngest participant we have to-date is a five-year-old girl from Kuching,” he told a press conference here recently.

Ngieng said they were expecting about 70 entries for this year’s competition, which has individual and group categories.

However, he did not want to disclose the number of entries they have received so far.

“We are still accepting entries from anyone wanting to showcase his or her talents in singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, magic, mimic and acrobatics,” he said.

Judging will be based on creativity, artistic skills, presentation, design and uniqueness.

The final judgment will be based on public votes, which comprise 30 per cent of the overall points.

The Talent of The Year Winner will take home a trophy and RM5,000, while the Most Popular, Most Creative and Most Entertaining winners will take home a trophy and RM1,000 each.

There will be special gifts to five other winners in trophy and RM500 cash.

The closing date is today (Nov 9).
