BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Minister of Health Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Mohd Yusof lauded the progress of Suri Seri Begawan Hospital yesterday at the 40th anniversary celebration as the hospital has shown substantial improvements and continues to develop further in terms of infrastructure development and renovation projects under the National Development Plan, Borneo Bulletin reported.

With latest and modern infrastructure, the minister said the hospital will be able to enhance its clinical services in various specialities. The development in the variety of services also supported by the provision of latest medical equipment and technologies such as CT Scan and mobile C-arm radiographic unit at the Radiology Department and computerised auto-perimeter and auto-refracto keratometer at the Ophthalmology Department among others.

“Brunei Healthcare Information Management System (Bru-HIMS), a system that integrates patients’ information management with the concept of ‘one patient one record’ will be introduced at Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in 2013. The system has been implemented and is currently in operation at Pengiran Muda Makhota Pengiran Muda Haji AI-Muhtadee Billah Hospital in Tutong,” the minister said and added that it would improve efficiency of the overall services including medical treatment and recovery of patients.

The minister also hailed the public-private partnership that is vigorously implemented between the hospital and private individuals in the district for the construction of a learning and development centre to improve capacity development programmes such as staff training and education, one of the crucial elements in improving and providing quality, up-to-date, safe and efficient services to patients and also the general public.

The minister also praised the continuous initiative and commitment of the hospital in the execution of holistic healthcare approaches by conducting partnership programmes with patients and the local community in handling non-communicable diseases and promoting a healthy lifestyle such as the Teraja Diabetic Awareness Programme, an innovative programme that has left a positive impact on its participants in dealing with the diabetic disease by leading a healthier lifestyle.

As a Muslim nation, the minister suggested the hospital community to recite Bismillah or surah al-fatihah or Ayat Kursi before conducting any medical procedures.

Reciting verses from the Quran will lead to blessings from Allah the Almighty for the health professionals in conducting their job and fulfilling their responsibilities apart from realising the desire of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for a “Negara Zikir” in supporting the nation’s Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy.
