DAP asks LDP to make stand on anti-hopping bill

KOTA KINABALU: DAP Sabah assistant secretary Junz Wong has advised Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to make a stand on anti-hopping bill instead of asking an irrelevant question.

“Being a local party claiming to be protecting the interests of Sabahan voters, LDP has the moral and political obligations to clarify its stand on anti-hopping bill,” Junz stressed.

“Let me explain to LDP what they failed to comprehend. The most important factor to succeed in amending the Federal Constitution via the anti-hopping bill, very much depends on BN parliamentarians’ support!

“Even when all the Pakatan Rakyat parliamentarians plus independents were to vote in favour of the anti-hopping bill, there would not be enough two-third majority votes to amend the Federal law. Thus support from Sabah BN parliamentarians is extremely crucial,” he said.

As to LDP question whether Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would support this bill, he said they would see how the Pakatan Rakyat opposition leader vote in favour of anti-hopping bill during voting session in Parliament.

Junz, who is also DAPSY KK assistant youth chief, challenged LDP president Datuk VK Liew to lead by example, by getting support from BN members of parliament to stop the breeding of political “frogs”.

“I am sure every Sabahan voter is keen to find out if the LDP president as Sandakan member of parliament, will support and vote in Parliament when the time comes,” he added.

Junz meanwhile welcomed the call by Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) in support of anti-hopping bill which will be tabled by DAP supremo chairman Karpal Singh in Parliament.

He said Pakatan Rakyat (PR) was delighted with SAPP response and he expected additional two votes when voting is made in Parliament to pass the anti-hopping bill.

“These initiatives are to amend Articles 10 and 48 of the Federal Constitution to pave way for the federal and state anti-hopping legislations to stop MPs and assemblymen from hopping to another party after being elected by voters under another party candidature,” he said.

He stressed again these amendments are important to stop future political coup to form governments by defections as suffered by the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) government in Sabah and PR government in Perak.

“It is due to reasons as such that even more Sabahan leaders, both BN and PR in the spirit of democracy and for the best interests of Sabahan voters, must support the anti-hopping bill,” he said.
