SIBU: A grocer in Rantau Panjang alleged to have killed a man with a sickle on Nov 2 was brought to the Magistrates’ Court here yesterday where he was ordered to be remanded for another six days.

He is alleged to have killed 31-year-old Obran Limbai.

Earlier, newspaper reports said Obran and four others had demanded RM200 from the grocer at his store in front of a flat at 10.30pm that fateful day.

When he refused to oblige, Obran slapped him, the reports said, causing the grocer to fall to the ground.

The four others closed in to kick and punch the grocer, who then took out a sickle to defend himself.

There and then, the reports said, he cut Obran on the neck. Obran’s brother, who was also in the group, rushed him to a 1Malaysia clinic before he was referred to the hospital where he died.

Police said members of the group had criminal records for robbery, car theft, and extortion.
