Youth facing statutory rape charges claims trial

KUCHING: A youth facing three counts of statutory rape charge claimed trial in the Sessions Court here yesterday.

Hasrollah Salleh, 21, from Kota Samarahan pleaded not guilty to the charges before Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad who set bail at RM10, 000 with two sureties pending the trial.

Judge Dayang Ellyn decided the case will be heard on Jan 18, 22 and 23 next year while case management was fixed on Dec 16.

Hasrollah allegedly had sexual intercourse with a fourteen-year-old girl, who is also his girlfriend, three times last month at a factory hostel where he worked at near Jalan Buruh in Bintawa.

The labourer allegedly committed the offences on Oct 25 between 1.30am and 2am and 11pm and midnight as well as on Oct 26 at 3am.

The complainant who is the victim’s mother, an administrative assistant, said that her daughter went out on Oct 25 but only returned home early morning the next day.

When asked, the daughter told her that she went to the accused’s house and also admitted that they had sexual intercourse. It was learnt that they had known each other for only a month.

Statutory rape comes under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine upon conviction.

Inspector Austin Patrick Angkon prosecuted while the accused was not represented by any defence lawyer.
