SIDMA College sports meet a huge success

KUCHING: Leading institution of higher learning, SIDMA College successfully organised its 2012 Sarawak Sports and Athletic Meet at Jubilee Ground here yesterday with the participation of 174 students and college personnel.

Participants were divided into six contingents of Merpati, Helang, Kasawari, Walit, Merak and Rajawali, competing in 18 track and field events at the MBKS mini stadium.

The Rajawali contingent was declared this year’s champion after garnering a total of 452 points. Second place went to the Helang House which gained 424 points followed by Merpati with 365 points.

The champion walked away with the 2012 SIDMA Sarawak Sports and Athletic Meet championship trophy plus RM500 cash prizes. The first runner-up received RM300 while second runner-up went home with RM200.

Male and female athletes of the year went to Robintino Lawan of Helang House and Alice Majakil of Kasawari House who both won three gold medals each. The duo each received RM50 and a trophy for their outstanding achievement.

The sports meet were first introduced in 2003 and organised by the college Student Affairs Department together with its students’ council and college administrative staff.

“SIDMA College Sarawak always encourages and support student’s involvement in sports. As a higher learning institute, the college pride itself in producing students who are not only excellent in academics, but also living a healthy lifestyle, active and emotionally stabile in life.

“This athletic meet is part of the college’s three sporting programmes including indoor and outdoor sports meet,” said Sarawak SIDMA College chief executive Marzuki Umi when officiating at the sports meet.

He added that the experience and skills learned through such activities would help the student to become strong, competitive and confident individuals to face future obstacles in life.

Also present were the college finance director Hanizah Mohidin, chief operating officer Dayang Sofia Abang Borhan and human resource and administrative department director Juriati Bujang.
