Masjid Darul Khidmat winner of golf competition

KUCHING: The team of Masjid Darul Khidmat from Kampung Sejijak won the team event of the Maal Hijrah golf competition at the Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) on Saturday when they carded a total score of 289 to beat four other teams.

The team comprising Shahrul Rizal Abd Malik (68), Mohd Jais Daud (70), Hazaman Bunggal (74) and Nordini Madink (77) received RM1,000 cash voucher and the challenge trophy.

Coming in second was the team from Surau Al-Hikmah of Kampung Biawak, Lundu who received RM800 cash voucher after they beat Surau Darul Iman, Cendrawasih on count back after both teams recorded a similar score of 292.

Fourth was Masjid Darul Saadah, Kampung Tabuan Melayu who also beat Masjid Al-Kuddus, Taman Sukma on count back after both had scores of 295.

In the VIP team contest, Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak was the winner with their score of 441.

As for the individual nett played over Siol/Demak courses, Kassim Yusuf was the champion with his score of 60.

He received RM700 cash voucher and a challenge trophy.

Second and third in this category were Zamhuri Draman (64) and Mustapha Dol (68 OCB) respectively.

The champion of the individual nett event played over Matang/Santubong nines was Dahrani Mohamd who carded a 71 to bring home RM700 cash voucher and a challenge trophy.

Abd Aziz Ismail, who posted a 72, finished as runner-up on count back over David Liew Miang Fong.

Mohamad Hassan also won himself a prize when he hit a hole-in-one at Hole 6 of Siol Nine.

Meanwhile, the winner of the individual gross event at Matang/Santubong Nines was Mohd Amin Adenan who returned a score of 84 to pick up RM500 cash voucher.

Second and third were Shaminan Goslih and Abd Latip Sabri respectively with their scores of 85 and 86.

The winner of the individual gross at Siol/Demak Nines was Awang Mazelan whose score was 80.

Finishing in second and third spots were Abd Taib Gembar (83) and Japar Mustapha (84) respectively.

In the VIP Individual contest, Mohd Sabry Othman was the champion with a score of 77.

Second to fifth were Abg Helmi Tan Sri Ikwan (79), Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki (84), Kuching City North mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai (86 OCB) and Mohamad Morshidi Mustapha (86).

The one-day competition organised by Sarawak Mosques Welfare Board in conjunction with the celebration of Maal Hijrah attracted a total of 220 golfers and 20 VIP players.

During the prize presentation ceremony, the Sarawak Mosques Welfare Board secretary Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai handed over a mock cheque of RM120,000 to KGS for the construction of a surau at its Halfway House.
