KUCHING: Saberkas will be sending strong teams to compete in the sepak takraw and futsal events of the 3rd Youth Sports and Culture Carnival in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan from Nov 22-25.

Contingent leader Iszuan Haroni expressed his confidence that both teams would fare well in this year’s competitions.

“We finished third in futsal and reached the semi-finals of the sepak takraw competition in Melaka last year and this year we are looking to better our performance, if not win them,” he told The Borneo Post after a flag presentation ceremony yesterday.

“We have a good chance in sepak takraw this year because it is based on regu and not on team contest.”

He added that Saberkas are only participating in two out of 10 events this year due to lack of funds.

Last year, they took part in futsal, sepak takraw, netball and badminton.

The contingent comprises five-member sepak takraw team managed by Othman Moner and eight-member futsal team managed by Zamury Bojeng.

They are accompanied by chief coordinator Mohd Hussein Ali.

Meanwhile, Saberkas state organising secretary Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who presented the state colours and Saberkas flag to the contingent, said it was a good opportunity for the state youths to represent such a big youth organisation like Saberkas at the national youth carnival.

He said the players are no ordinary players as they have won in their respective zones and some have represented Sarawak at Sukma while others have also competed at other national competitions.

“I hope they can get excellent results at the carnival and bring glory to Sarawak,” added the Pantai Damai assemblyman.
