TAWAU: The Magistrate’s Court here Tuesday sentenced a foreign labourer to 15 months jail after he pleaded guilty to stealing oil palm fruits belonging to his employer early this month.
Magistrate Suhaila Selag handed down the sentence after the accused, John Saldi, 21, a Filipino, admitted to stealing the fruits which weighed a total of four tonnes and were worth R1,500 at Kebun Sawit Kalumpang, Jalan Kunak here at 1pm on Nov 1.
Suhaila also handed the accused an additional three-month jail sentence and two strokes of the rotan for entering the country illegally.
The jail sentences were to run consecutively.
