The tournament which was organised by Sarawak Mosque Welfare Board saw 16 teams taking part.

KUCHING: Former state shuttler Yusri Azmi is planning to set up a Bumiputera Badminton Centre to train children aged 7-11 years old (Tier 1) and youth aged 12-17 years old (Tier 2).

Yusri said that he and a few other regular badminton players would be setting a coaching centre and are in the process of registration with the registrar of society and the department of culture and sports.

“Even before the launching of the badminton development programme, we have received overwhelming responses from parents wanting to have their children trained with us as they (parents) have the view that badminton is the world’s fastest sport, inexpensive, and lots of fun to play,” Yusri added.

He disclosed that in their development programme, Tier 1 will teach the badminton students the basic fundamentals of badminton and in Tier 2, will concentrate on the sport development: explore new strokes, strategy, and footwork.

“Every trainee is unique therefore it is important that we have to design a personalised learning experience for youth students by progressing through a long-term training plan to achieve their goals,” Yusri informed.
