Woman claims trial to possessing poison tablets

KUCHING: A woman charged with possessing 798 poisonous tablets containing Dextromethorphan claimed trial in the Sessions Court here yesterday.

Siah Gobil, 47, from Kampung Empila Kota Samarahan pleaded not guilty to possessing all the tablets before Judge Alwi Abdul Wahab who released her on RM5,000 cash bail with two sureties pending trial.

The case will be heard on Feb 27 and 28 next year while the case management was fixed for Dec 19.

She allegedly committed the offence when nabbed at her house at Desa Ilmu in Kota Samarahan at about 11.25pm on May 20, 2007.

Earlier, Sian claimed she didn’t know the existence of the pills at her house until the house was raided by cops who found the tablets.

Possessing such tablets contravenes Regulation 9 (1)(b) of the Poison Regulation 1952 read with Section 9(1) of the Poison Act 1952.

Siah will be tried under Section 9(3) and punishable under Section 32(2) of the Poisons Act 1952 which provides a fine of not more than RM3,000 or imprisonment not exceeding one year or both upon conviction.

In the same court room, a cobbler Mohamad Ini was fined RM3,000 in default six months after he pleaded guilty to possessing 330 poisonous tablets.

The 47-year-old committed the offence at an unnumbered house at Kampung Tanjung Bundong near Kota Samarahan at about 3pm on April 30 this year.

Meanwhile an unemployed youth from Kampung Baru in Kota Samarahan was fined RM2,000, in default two months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to possessing 15 poisonous tablets.

Putra Razabullahzam Shah Serah, 19, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at the junction near Kota Samarahan sport complex at about 5.30pm on May 18 this year.

Both Mohamad and Putra settled the fine. Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted in all the cases.
