KOTA SAMARAHAN: Former national blowpipe individual and team event champion viewed that blowpipe shooting and bowing had so much in common.

According to 70-year-old Lim Thian Guan, who is a former assistant coach, both sports needs autonomy that concerns independence, self-regulatory action and freedom from external control or influence especially during keenly contest finals like the one they have during the 8th Sarawak Indoor Archery Championship held at Samarahan Indoor Stadium last Sunday.

“In blowpipe or archery competitions competitors have to acquire independent thinking to stay focus that will enhance decision-making and confidence,” he added.

The veteran archer started as a blowpipe shooter and was the national champion in 2009 and 2010 held in Lawas and Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur respectively.

Lim started to take up archery six years ago and last year struck gold in the Men’s veteran individual compound bow.

Last Sunday, Lim teamed up with Joseph Dreba and Bong Fah Shin to win silver after scoring 164 points in the men’s team compound bow, losing only to the more experience Melaka and national trio – Muhamad Noor, Zainudin Talip and Logathasan, who won gold with 214 points.

On another note, he advised young archers who have many chances of enjoying the fun of competitions to be competence in the sport which he said is the ability to achieve success.
