BRUNEI: The ongoing second South East Asia Harley Owners’ Group (SEA HOG) Sarawak tour brought the riders to Bandar Seri Begawan here yesterday with their visit hosted by the sultanate’s Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

Having entered its sixth day, the over 100 riders and their entourage have covered a total distance of over 1,200 km yesterday and had travelled through Serian, Sri Aman, Selangau, Sibu, Bintulu, Bekenu, Miri and Bandar Seri Begawan.

The group had returned to Miri yesterday before stopping for the night at Bintulu before proceeding to Kuching today.

SIGHT TO BEHOLD : Traffic went to a standstill when riders stopping for refuelling at one of the petrol stations at Bandar Seri Begawan prior to the start of their journey to Miri yesterday.

The real test for both the riders and their high powered machines is expected to begin today as they had to cover a distance of approximately 650 km in their trip back to Kuching.

The distance is also the longest since the start of their journey on Nov 15 and it is time consuming due to the fact that the high powered Harley Davidson motorcycles will need refuelling every 150 km to 180 km of the journey.

The organisers are banking on fine weather to be on their side so that the convoy’s return journey will be smooth and safe.

Meanwhile, Brunei’s Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awg Haji Yahya Bin Begawan Mudim called on the rally’s organisers to organise similar events with the aim to promote motorsports tourism and business networking among the participants from different countries. He said Brunei has always welcomed visitors with open arms and to encourage them to stay a little bit longer during their holidays there.

According to him, such tourism events are beneficial to the local community because it can boost their livelihood particularly those who are involved in handicraft and food industry.

The minister who hosted the welcoming lunch and dinner for the SEA HOG rally group also commended the organisers for providing a good platform for the riders from 14 different countries to interact and networking with one another.
