Greater benefits if support for BN stays strong – DPM

KOTA KINABALU: Civil servants in Sabah, as well as the people, will continue to reap greater benefits through various welfare programmes if support for Barisan Nasional (BN) remains strong in the coming general election.

“I believe Sabah and its people will continue to enjoy all these benefits with BN leading the community and economic development programmes, especially through the implementation of the people and nation’s economic transformation agendas,” explained Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin yesterday.

He said it was also important for civil servants to understand current issues to enable them to promote and spread the government’s aspirations and views on matters raised by irresponsible parties, especially with the election just around the corner.

“Civil servants must assure the people and voters in Sabah that the federal government would continue to provide various assistance and programmes to improve their welfare and well-being.

“This is reflected through the commitments in the 2013 National Budget, which among others include the continuity of BR1M 2.0 and school assistance vouchers,” he told thousands of government employees during a gathering here.

He noted that the civil servants’ roles were greater compared to those in the past, especially with the nation moving towards a developed and high income country.

“In the past, the administration was only doing routine work, but those days have changed now. Their views and responsibilities are not restricted to what appear before them, as they are also required to meet and satisfy the people’s needs. Their tasks are getting wider, and will determine the nation’s future.

“Without continuous efforts, our successes today may not be enjoyed in the future, and we may have to go through an era where we have to work harder, highly motivated, competitively creative, or worst, it would disappear. Therefore, we must always be ready to develop our minds, thinking and attitude to refrain from falling into being complacent and satisfied with current achievements. You must be ready to be retrained and strengthen your mindset,” Muhyiddin reminded the civil servants.

He said as a government machinery that practises democratic administration system, they have to be professional in executing all directives and government policies without abusing their positions, failing which, the nation and its people will fall victims.

“If the service delivery is executed efficiently and with high integrity, it will help in the smooth implementation of government agendas as a whole,” he said.

Also present at the event were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman.
