SIBU: The police have been asked to clamp down on crime here.

Temenggong Vincent Lau cited the two shootings resulting in murders here and said the security of Sibu needs to be addressed.

“I am also calling on the people to play their role, starting with being responsible for their own safety by stepping up measures to prevent theft,” he said during a People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) function on Sunday where he was bestowed the title of Honorary Major.

On criminal activities said to be linked to the murders, Lau said sophisticated and advanced technology had been misused.

“But, when this development is used to turn against the community, it will create problems like what we have seen – the advanced technology is being used for vice.”

He added that Rela had a major part to play in the community.

“Properly managed, Rela members can play an important role to maintain peace, security and order.

“Ensure the highest level of discipline. For recruitment, accept only quality members who are responsible.”
