ALOR SETAR: he High Court here yesterday sentenced a debt collector to death after he was found guilty of trafficking heroin and monoacethymorphines at Gurun Awal, early this year.

Judicial Commissioner Datuk Zakiah Kassim passed the sentence on Mohd Yusri Ab Hamid, 36, after the prosecution managed to prove a prima facie case against him.

Mohd Yusri trafficked 50.29 grammes heroin and 4.31 grammes monoacethymorphines at the car park behind the Gurun Tol Plaza about 3pm on Jan 22.

He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence, upon conviction.

In her judgement, Zakiah said Mohd Yusri’s defence testimony was a mere fabrication and if there really was a discussion about a debt between a woman named Kak Na and his employer, Ah Peng, then they should have testified in court.

Deputy public prosecutor Norshuhada Mohd Yatim prosecuted, while Mohd Yusri was represented by lawyer Ali Munawar Razak. — Bernama
