KUCHING: Two coaches and two junior wushu exponents from Sarawak will be attending a wushu course in Ipoh, Perak from Nov 22-24.

The coaches are former Sukma gold medallist Lau Hui Wei and Sarawak State Sports Council’s Centre of Excellence for Wushu, Kuching coach Ling Ung Hee while the exponents are national juniors Elvic Bong Qiang Zheng and Clement Thian Fung Seng.

Wushu, Lion and Dragon Dance Federation of Sarawak (WFS) secretary James Ting said the four representatives from Sarawak will be learning the new taolu (standardised routine) during the three-day course.

“All the affiliates of Wushu Federation of Malaysia are expected to send representatives to the course.”

He added that it was necessary to learn the new taolu as starting next year, they will be competed in the Ministry of Education (KPM) Wushu Championship as well as in the Asian Junior Wushu Championship.

“It is also part of efforts to stay updated on the latest taolu requirements for competitions,” said Ting, adding that the four WFS representatives are all going on the trip on their own expenses.

They will be sharing their knowledge with other coaches and exponents after the completion of the course.
