Fung’s victory tightens his grip on PGM Order of Merit

VITAL WIN: Nicholas Fung of Sabah edged closer to winning the Order of Merit 2012 with the win at the RM130,000 PGM-UMW-Glenmarie Classic at the Glenmarie Golf & Country Club in Shah Alam yesterday.

KUCHING: It was a duel between Nicholas Fung and Sukree Othman in the final round of the RM130,000 PGM-UMW-Glenmarie Classic yesterday with Fung, the Sabahan golf ace emerged victorious after with just two shots.

Fung’s well fought victory at the Glenmarie Golf & Country Club, Shah Alam has tightened his grip over the 2012 PGM Order of Merit.

Fung finished the round at eight-under 280 while Sukree trailed behind with a six-under 282 and M Sasidaran in third place at three-under 285.

The winner’s cheque of RM21,900 boosted Fung’s total earnings on the PGM Tour at RM149,435 to remain at the top while Sukree bagged RM14,690 for the third place of the OOM with total money purse of RM121,798.35.

R Natchimuthu who finished in fifth place with earnings of RM5,720 is in second place of the OOM.

To top of that, champion of champions will be settled in two weeks time when the last leg of the PGM Tour PGM-MaybankTour Players’ Championship tee off on Dec 22 at the Impian Golf & Country Club in Kajang Selangor.

“I will just go and play, I am not even thinking of winning the Order of Merit,” said Fung whose father came all the way from Sabah to watch him play the final round.

“Overall, I am happy with my game. At the 16th I over clubbed the second shot and the ball ended on the fringe at the back. My first putt was a bad one, short and I missed the second putt,” said Sukree.

Sasidaran said he was glad that his game was back as he had been struggling in the last few months.
