DARO Hospital is in dire need of specialist doctors who can handle emergency and critical cases.

Abu Seman Jahwie (BN-Jemoreng) said people from his constituency are sharing facilities of the said hospital with the people of Daro constituency.

“In 2011, a total of 167 patients from Daro Hospital had to be transferred to Sibu Hospital via boat and ambulance for specialist treatment. In 2012, the number of patients who had to be transferred is 250, to-date. Between Matu (in Jemoreng) and Daro is a distance of 25 kilometres,” he said.

“What is more worrying besides the fact that the distance between Daro and Sibu is far, there is also the problem of transportation delay at the ferry point in Daro,” he said, pointing to the difficulties that patients could face in getting specialist treatment.

He also expressed concern that travelling at night by boat could be dangerous to the patients.

On a separate matter concerning his constituency, Abu Seman proposed that a palm oil factory be built at Igan.

“The state government or a private company could consider setting up a palm oil factory at the people’s oil palm plantation (Ladang Sawit Rakyat) Igan, which is a total of 2,600 hectares. The construction of this factory will bring socio-economic benefits to the people in Igan, as currently the oil palm fruits from this area have to been sent to factories in Saratok and Mukah, which is rather far for the people,” he said.
