KUALA LUMPUR: A man who claimed to be a tuberculosis (TB) patient was sentenced to four years jail and two strokes of the rotan by the Magistrate’s Court here Thursday after he pleaded guilty to abducting and molesting a five-year-old girl, five days ago.

Magistrate Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin ordered G. Jagajasen to serve a year’s jail for the abduction and two years jail for the molest offence, besides the whipping.

However, she ordered the jail sentences to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on Nov 17.

Jagajasen, 35, had grabbed the Year Two pupil from her mother by the roadside at Jalan Raja Laut here at 9.45pm on Nov 17 and molested the child along a pedestrian walk beneath a Light Rail Transit (LRT) station nearby at 10.45am the same day.

He was liable to be jailed up to seven years and whipping for the abduction and a maximum of 10 years or whipped or both for the molest offence.

In mitigation, Jagajasen pleaded for a lighter sentence saying that he regretted his actions and that he was a TB patient at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Inspector Zuraimi Kamarozzaman appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented. – Bernama
