KOTA KINABALU: The recent abduction of a manager and assistant manager in an oil palm plantation in Lahad Datu was an isolated incident, and the security of Sabah waters is still under control, said Royal Malaysian Navy deputy chief Vice-Admiral Datuk Mohammed Noordin Ali.

Early information is the most important part in any cases involving the Malaysian waters, he stressed when speaking to reporters after the launch of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Naval Reservist Programme (PALAPES-Laut) at UMS Chancellor Hall yesterday.

“In the Royal Malaysian Navy, we always remind our fishermen and private boat owners to report any incident immediately to ensure we can act directly, and at the same time to contact our counterparts in neighboring countries.

“With our security surveillance “Ops Pasir”, we are confident cases like this will be reduced because the core role Royal Malaysian Navy is to safeguard our national sovereignty. But the most important is the early information before the case to be carried out from our waters,” he said.

Meanwhile, Region Two Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Datuk Pahlawan Mohammad Rosland Omar also assured that the security of Sabah waters remains under control despite the recent abduction in Lahad Datu.
