Jailed for assaulting his father

KUCHING: A 28-year-old man received a one-year jail sentence for assaulting his father on Tuesday.

Presiding magistrate Maris Agan handed down the sentence on Abdul Ghaffur Jamali who pleaded guilty to committing
the offence at their house at Semariang Baru at 5pm on Nov 20.

His custodial sentence was to take effect immediately.

The accused was convicted of a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

He admitted assaulting his father on the head with a stick which caused him to faint.

Abdul Ghaffur had run amok in the house by banging on the door and disturbing his younger sister.

His father, 55, who is the complainant tried to stop him but ended up being beaten. He lodged a police report and his son was arrested on the same day.

In the same court room, a man who pleaded guilty to theft of a box of electronic cigarettes last week was also sentenced to a year in jail.

Magistrate Maris convicted 30-year-old Radino Shah Fazali of a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

He was arrested at his house at Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar at about12.48pm on Nov 14.

The accused was caught committing the offence on CCTV.

It was learnt that Radino had noticed that a Perodua Kenari belonging to a vendor at Wisma Saberkas was left unlocked.

He opened the boot and stole a box containing electronic cigarettes.

When arrested at his house, apart from the missing electronic cigarettes, police also found mobile phones, LCD monitors and a camera tripod.

Radino pleaded guilty to consuming drugs after his urine tested positive at Tabuan Jaya Police Station.

He was slapped with a RM1,000 fine in default three months’ imprisonment and was placed under two years’ drug supervision. Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted in both cases.
