GEORGE TOWN: The Penang police have plugged a Brazil-Malaysian cocaine pipeline with the arrest of a Thai woman and seizure of 535g of the drug.

The 27-year-old suspect, dubbed the ‘Dragon Lady’ for suspected involvement in international cocaine trafficking, was nabbed at 11.45am on Wednesday at a leading hotel here.

While the raiding police team seized a large capsule of cocaine at the hotel room, another 40 capsules containing the drug were seized from the woman’s stools.

The woman had arrived in Malaysia, via the Sao Paulo (Brazil)-Barcelona(Spain)-Singapore flight route.

Initial investigations revealed the seized drug, estimated to be worth about RM160,000 at street value, was suspected to have originated from the Brazilian underworld.

State narcotics CID deputy chief DSP Lee King Chuan said yesterday, following her arrest at the hotel, the woman was taken to the Penang Hospital where part of the cocaine capsules were found in her stools.

“This is the first cocaine seizure in Penang, so far, this year,” he said adding that the woman would be remanded until Nov 28 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Upon conviction under the Act, she faces the mandatory death penalty. — Bernama
