Comtec Solar System Group registers interest to invest in Sarawak

KUCHING: Comtec Solar Systems Group Limited China chairman John Zhang and Comtec Solar (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Isabel Kow Seok Foon paid a courtesy call on Minister of Industrial Development Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at his office at Sarawak State Legislative Assembly building on Friday.

The purpose of their visit was to brief Awang Tengah about Comtec Solar’s proposal to invest outside China, and to register their interest to invest in the state.

On the same day, Zhang and Kow also visited Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone.

Founded in 1999, Comtec Solar is a manufacturer of monocrystalline solar ingots and wafers based in Shanghai and Hai An, China, and mainly engages in the design, development, manufacturing and sale of quality solar wafers.

Their headquarters is in Nanhui Industrial Zone, Shanghai, China.

Comtec Solar has entered the solar silicon wafer industry since 2004. Since then, its main focus has shifted to the solar industry to cater to the increasing demand for their top-quality products.

The company is listed on the main board of the stock exchange of Hong Kong. In March last year, Comtec Solar was ranked sixth in the top 10 wafers companies in the world by Green World Investors.

Currently, the products of the company are mainly offered to the major manufacturers of solar cells worldwide, such as Suntech Power, JA Solar, Topsola, Jetion, China Sunergy and Sunpower in Malacca, Malaysia.

Among those present during the visit were Industrial Development (Industrial Estate Development) Assistant Minister Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie and Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) Assistant Minister Julaihi Narawi.
