Nurjamri tames Bukit Siol

CLASS OF HIS OWN: Nurjamri negotiating the trail to end for a win in the Men Open XC class.

KUCHING: Muhammad Nurjamri Johari of Brunei was in his element yesterday as he conquered Bukit Siol to win the Men Open XC category of the Siol X-Treme Mountain Bike Challenge 2012.

Nurjamri, who outperformed nine other cyclists, was the man to beat with his sheer speed and endurance. He led the trial from start to finish, followed closely by Shahril Aizat from Selangor MBPJ Polygon in second placing and Sylvester Ding from team 3GX in third.

The downhill category on the other hand saw Selangor MBPJ/Polygon rider Sharel Aizat Nazali crowned as the winner, followed by Glory Chai of team 3GX while Muhamad Syafiq Subian a close third.

Meanwhile, in the Women Open XC, state cyclist from Arus Polygon/MSN Sarawak, Junaidah Juss won the category, beating six other cyclists in the class.

Trailing closely behind were both riders from Team USPTN, Caroline George and Carleen Wang.

In the Men under-18 XC class, Abdul Syakur was crowned as the winner, followed by Awang Adib Awang Suffian in second and Gary Tay in third place.

In the XC Men 40 and above, Supian Nor was crowned as the winner, followed by Ezamshah Abdul Rahman and Dominic Vun.

Petrajaya MP Datuk Fadillah Yusuf who was present at the closing ceremony highlighted the master plan to turn Petrajaya into a ‘cyclists’ city’, with the initial plan to built more cyclist lanes in the area.

“Apart from this mountain bike trial here in Bukit Siol, we wanted this place to be an environmental friendly place too. On my capacity as the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, we are always keen to look at how to implement green technology to our city,”

“For example, the lighting system at the Esplanade Waterfront which is powered through solar system is a statement of our direction towards achieving a role model green city,” he elaborated.

The two-day event saw around 150 participants from Sarawak, Brunei, Kalimantan and West Malaysia participating in the annual event.
