KUCHING: A man charged with possessing various types of firecrackers claimed trial in the magistrates’ court yesterday.
Jong Kwang Yew, 39, allegedly possessed 513 boxes of firecrackers when he was detained by the authorities at Jalan Stephen Yong at about 5pm on Aug 19. His trial date was set for Jan 9 next year.
The offence was punishable under Section 8 of the Explosive Act 1957 carrying a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment or a fine up to RM10,000 or both.
Jong was unrepresented while Inspector Ahmad Ilias prosecuted.
