JOHOR BAHARU: The High Court here yesterday affirmed a Sessions Court ruling here to acquit and discharge Sri Gading Umno Youth’s former secretary, and its former treasurer, on a joint charge of corruptly making a false claim involving RM19,998, about four years ago.

Justice Datuk Abdul Halim Aman dismissed the prosecution’s appeal in favour of Saiful Basar Samakon, 46, and Rahmat Junid, 47, after hearing submissions from both sides.

The two, who were represented by Manian K. Marappan and G. Subramaniam Nair, respectively, were freed by the Sessions Court last April 30, of making a repayment claim for the supply of food, drinks and accommodation, in conjunction with a non-existent youth leadership and motivation course in the Sri Gading parliamentary constituency.

They were alleged to have submitted a claim form to Batu Pahat office administrative assistant Rohayah Sarip on Oct 17, 2008, via one Tumiran Apandi.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Abdul Ghafar Abd Latif, from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, appeared for the prosecution. — Bernama
