S’wak boys and girls aim for semi-finals in U-14 basketball

KUCHING: Sarawak boys and girls are expected to have better chances of qualifying for the semi-finals of the ongoing inaugural National Under 14 Basketball Championship after registering impressive wins in their preliminary group matches.

The girls scored their second win after they thumped Pulau Pinang 65-29 in Group B matches played at Maba Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

They beat Pahang 64-41 in the opener a day earlier and will face Kuala Lumpur team which also recorded two wins.

The two will meet to decide the leader in their group.

Sarawak boys bounced back to beat dark horse team Kedah 59-56 to revive their hopes after their 39-44 defeat to Pahang during the Group A opening match on Tuesday.

Sarawak must defeat Johor in order to secure their semi-final berth in the championship which is participated by eight boys and eight girls teams.

The finals is on Sunday.

In Boys Group B are Pulau Pinang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Melaka while the teams in Girls Group A are Kedah, Selangor, Melaka and Johor.
