Jobless man pleads not guilty to theft charges

KOTA KINABALU: A local jobless man was charged at the Sessions Court here yesterday with three counts of theft.

Hashim Rahman, 29, pleaded not guilty to all the charges before High Court deputy registrar Steve Ritiqos who then set Dec 5, for case management.

Steve, who sat as a Sessions Court judge, released the accused on RM5,000 bail with two local sureties pending disposal of the case.

The first count accuses Hashim of stealing a Public Bank account book, a doctor appointment card, a hand bag, a Mykad under the name of Zuraidah Hamid, two Mykids and a Public Bank ATM card belonging to Zuraidah Hamid. He is alleged to have committed the offence by the roadside at Bukit Vor in Putatan about 3.30pm on Nov 16. On the second count he is accused of stealing a gold chain belonging to Nelly Lorens by the roadside at Taman Regal in Putatan about 9.30pm on Sept 25.

For the third charge, Hashim allegedly stole Azrinawatie Abd Karim’s belongings, namely a 4s iPhone handphone, a student card, an ATM card, a Maybank debit card and RM50 at a roadside at Taman Pasir Putih, Putatan about 9pm on Sept 18.

Each of the charges under Section 379 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Monica Linsua prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by any lawyer.
