KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s world number one women’s squash player Datuk Nicol David has advanced into the semi-finals of the 2012 Hong Kong Open squash championship.

In the quarter-final held at the Hong Kong Squash Centre glass court in Hong Kong yesterday, the 29-year-old Penangite defeated Australia’s Kasey Brown to book her semi-final berth.

Nicol once again had an easy passage in her quest for her eighth Hong Kong Open title when she won the quarterfinal match in straight sets, 11-2, 11-4 and 11-3 in 30 minutes.

She will be meeting eighth seeded Natalie Grinham of the Netherlands, who defeated third seeded Jenny Duncalf of England 11-8, 10-12, 11-2 and 11-5 in 49 minutes, in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, in the other semi-final match encounter is between France’s Camille Serme and Egypt’s Omneya Abdel Kawy. Camille booked her berth when she beat Natalie’s elder sister, Rachael of Australia in straight sets of 11-6, 11-7 and 12-10 while Omneya created an upset over sixth seeded Alison Waters from England. She ousted Waters in 11-9, 9-11, 6-11, 11-8 and 11-9. — Bernama
