Babic gets extended stay as Crocs seek potent striker

EXTENDED STAY: Ivan Babic of Croatia (right) vies for the ball with Sarawak’s Guy Bwele during a trial session at the State Stadium yesterday. Crocs head coach Alberts has yet to make a decision on a new signing but is interested in seeing more from the Babic. The other foreign import slot is certain to be filled by Bwele.

KUCHING: Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) is still keeping their options wide open with regards to signing an import striker.

According to Sarawak head coach Robert Alberts, he is taking his time as he wants to sign the player that is most suitable for Sarawak. He is in no obvious hurry and has postponed the decision making process till this coming Wednesday.

“It is all about who can play well for Sarawak. All the foreign players who came to Sarawak for the trials today (yesterday) are good and quality players,” he said.

Out of the four foreign players who came to Sarawak for trials last week, Alberts have decided to retain only Ivan Babic.

He added that the Croatian have impressed him during the trial and wants a further assessment on the player.

Alberts continued that the Croat will stay for a little while longer as he thinks that Babic might be the player that fits into his system of play.

The player has been showing some glimpse of brilliance during the trials which was held throughout the week.

“The other players are good but I think Babic stands out among the rest. He is the type of player that runs between the opposition’s defence line and I hope that he will show more of his ability during his extension here,” he added.

Meanwhile after the conclusion of the trials yesterday, Alberts revealed that another striker is on his way to Stadium Negeri to try his luck.

He hoped that the player has the right requirements and ability to fill in the crucial vacant position.

“I won’t reveal any particulars about the player for now. All I can say that he is on his way here,” he commented.

According to a reliable source, the striker is believed to be a former Kelantan import player who has been released by his team. The trials are scheduled to resume tomorrow (Dec 3).
