PASIR MAS: A group of robbers failed to escape with cash from an Agrobank automated teller machine (ATM) in Jalan Tendong, here, after their activities were detected by a member of the public yesterday morning.

A resident who had heard loud noises and witnessed the incident contacted the police, causing the robbers to flee in the 6.50am incident.

“The robbers were believed to have tried to break open one of the three ATM machines there at 5.30am. At 6.50am a resident realised what was happening after hearing loud noises then immediately contacted the police,” said Kelantan Deputy Police Chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim at the scene.

A police patrol car was  then sent to the scene of the incident.

He said the robbers managed to force open part of the ATM, but failed to access the compartment containing the money.

The police also discovered several equipment used by the robbers including scissors, axe and knuckle duster, however, they managed to run off with the oxygen gas used to cut through metal.

“The suspects also damaged closed-circuit television cameras installed in the premises. We are still investigating the actual number of individuals involved,” he said.

Mazlan urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the Kelantan Contingent Police Headquarters Operations Room at 09-7450999. — Bernama
