Brunei team lift football title

SIBU: Pre-tournament favourites Brunei ‘A’, lived up to their top billing to capture the 6th  Special Olympics 5-a-side Football Borneo Cup Tournament 2012 title, which concluded at the prison’s field in Jalan Awang Ramli Amit here yesterday.

The team vanquished Soina Berau of Indonesia 1–0 in the final.

In an earlier match, Brunei ‘B’ edged Sarawak ‘C’ 1–0 for third place.

Mohd Nazri Mohd Jeffyden of Brunei ‘B’ was the top scorer whereas Mohd Rafi of Brunei ‘A’ was declared the best player.

According to the organising chairman, Mohd Safree, seven teams including from Sabah took part in the tournament which was among others, aimed to unearth new talents.

He revealed that the tournament would be held in Kalimantan in October next year.

Meanwhile, the team manager for both Brunei A and Brunei B, Lieutenant-Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Ramli Bunut, who is also the vice-chairman of Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam was pleased with the successful organising of the annual tournament.

“We are happy to be crowned champion. We came here from Brunei using our own cars. The 20 member Brunei contingent includes five officials and two coaches,” informed Pengiran Ramli.
