Nicol beats Camille to retain Hong Kong Open title

KUALA LUMPUR: Top seed and world number one Datuk Nicol David sealed her eighth successive Hong Kong Open title after defeating Camille Serme of France in the final.

According to the competition official website, www.hksquashopen.com, the 29-year-old Malaysian squash queen outclassed the unseeded Camille 11-9, 11-6, 8-11 and 11-7 in the match held at a glass-court mounted at the Piazza, Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Kowloon, Hong Kong, yesterday.

In the semi-finals, Nicol defeated Natalie Grinham of the Netherlands in straight set 11-8, 11-5 and 11-6.

“It took me a little time to adjust to the court as its a new one, So, I was maybe a bit late on the ball, my timing was not at its best,” said Nicol as quoted in a squash  website, www.squashsite.co.uk. It was Nicol’s first meeting with Camille in the final of the Women’s Squash Association (WSA) tours.

Camille booked her berth in the final after defeating Egypt’s Omneya Abdel Kawy in a gruelling five set thriller with a score of 11-9, 4-11, 11-7, 11-13 and 11-6, yesterday. — Bernama
