SIBU: The visit of Sarawak and Brunei Assistant Bishop The Right Reverend Aeries Sumping Jingan to Rumah Gibson Nyaoh at Nanga Salim here on Saturday caused excitement among the longhouse residents.

Rumah Gibson’s Christmas carolling organising chairman Joshua Enggu said his visit created history as this was his first visit to a longhouse, particularly in Sibu.

The longhouse residents, who are mostly Anglican Christians, were happy and grateful for the unexpected visit, he said.

“He joined us in our activity together with about 50 carollers from Saint John Church,” he said.

The carolling was led by the church vicar Reverend Canon Jamal Senada.

“After the carolling, Aries joined the longhouse residents for dinner which was followed by entertainment programmes,” he said.

Aries was here since Friday to attend a fundraising dinner organised by Saint John Church at a hotel here.

On Saturday, he baptised more than 90 new Christians at the church and led the mass prayer on Sunday before returning to Kuching.
