SLIPPERY AND MUDDY: A four-wheel drive vehicle tries to negotiate the road.

MARUDI: Certain sections of the Miri-Marudi Road are very muddy and slippery, while some parts have deep trenches for culvert-laying which are left uncovered, posing great danger to motorists and their passengers.

This scene was seen yesterday morning between Sungai Arang, Bakong Ferry Point and Batang Baram Ferry Point after a heavy downpour the previous night.

What was perplexing was that no workers were seen levelling the muddy patches, laying the culverts and assisting to push vehicles that were stuck.

Drivers of four-wheel drive vehicles were seen trying hard to manoeuvre their machines over the slippery and pothole riddled road, with some stranded on the roadsides. Only the experienced ones got through.

The road is scheduled to be completed by February next year, and if no efforts are made to hasten its completion, many believe that it would not be completed even by 2014.
