‘Kuih’ sellers get four years’ jail, whipping for robbing doctor, staff

PETALING JAYA: Two ‘kuih’ sellers were each sentenced to four years’ jail and a stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here today, when they pleaded guilty to robbing a doctor and her two staff at a clinic last month, while armed with two machetes.

Judge Yasmin Abdul Razak ordered Ahmad Eskandar Abu Kasim, from Kuang, and Mazalan Kamaruddin, from Ulu Yam, to serve the sentences from the date of their arrest on Nov 27.

Ahmad Eskandar, 42, and Mazalan, 46, were jointly charged with armed gang robbery on Dr Rozaida Ashaari, 45, and two of her staff, Zubaida Mat Aroff, 41, and Seri Najwa Jasri, 18, at a clinic in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh.

The duo had robbed them of handphones, credit cards and more than RM400, among others.

Meanwhile, another accused, Mohd Nizwan Awalludin, 38, from Ulu Yam, pleaded not guilty to the same charge.

Judge Yasmin granted Mohd Nizwan bail of RM7,000 in one surety and fixed Jan 15 for mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Dhiya Syazwani Izyan Mohd Akhir prosecuted while the trio were represented by Datuk Suraj Singh. – Bernama
