No intention to retire yet – Bumburing

KOTA KINABALU: Tuaran member of parliament Datuk Seri Wilfred Bumburing is not ready to retire as he still has much to do.

The former UPKO deputy president said that there are a lot of issues that have to be addressed and therefore his struggles for the people of Sabah must be continued.

Bumburing, when addressing friends, family and supporters at his birthday celebration on Sunday, said that many people who reached his age would make the decision to retire.

“But for me, I see the problems facing the natives of Sabah and I am driven to work harder for them to ensure that the issues are addressed and resolved … so I do not feel that it is time yet for me to retire,” he said.

Bumburing, who left Barisan Nasional (BN) to form Angkatan Perubahan Sabah (APS), also said that the movement’s target to spread word of its struggles had been carried out according to plan and schedule starting from July 29, the date he and fellow BN members decided to leave the coalition and pledge their support for the opposition.

He vowed to continue fighting for all Malaysians in Sabah through the movement with the aim of assisting Pakatan Rakyat take over the administration of the federal government.

Bumburing also said that APS would be forming a special unit to prepare evidence that would be given to the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the presence of illegal immigrants in Sabah to assist them in their investigations.

APS’ struggles will also be focusing on restoring the pride and prestige of the Bumiputras in Sabah who are now under threat by the presence of illegal immigrants, he said.

“Today, I call upon all APS members, supporters and sympathizers to reaffirm our commitment towards achieving our objectives and goals in setting up APS. Primarily, our objectives as a registered movement is adequately stated in our Constitution.

“With these objectives, I hereby reaffirmed our commitment to align ourselves with the political parties that makes up Pakatan Rakyat and to work alongside other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that are also aligned with the other organizations in PR in order for APS to achieve its objectives and struggles.

“Contrary to what have been perceived by our opponents and detractors, APS is not about promoting any particular candidates to stand in the coming 13th general election, but primarily to bring about solid unity among the people in order for us to be able to effectively bring about a change in government after the 13th general election. We in APS are committed to support any candidates that will be fielded by any of political parties in PR in the coming 13th general election.

“In order for us to carry out our objectives effectively, and in collaboration and consultation with the other pioneer leaders in APS, we have therefore formed our APS Protem Supreme Council. Members appointed to fill some of the major positions will carry out their job and function in accordance with their position until the next general meeting is held,” he added.

The Supreme Council line-up comprises of Bumburing as president and APS Tuaran chief, Datuk Maijol Mahap as deputy president and Kota Marudu chief while the vice presidents are Datuk Dr Richard Gunting (Pensiangan), Datuk Herman Tiongsoh (Kuala Penyu) and Datuk Laimun Laikim (Tenom).

APS Youth movement will be headed by Denis Gimpah (Tamparuli) and its secretary general is APS Tambunan chief Petrus Francis Guriting who will be assisted by Benson Inggam (Kuamut)

The movement’s treasurer general is Brendan Mojilip, who will be assisted by James Miki (Beluran) while Lesaya Lopog Sorudim (Kiulu) has been appointed information chief with Patrick Sadom (Sipitang) as assistant information chief.

Its communication chief post will be held by Alex Kando while Datuk Kalakau Untol (Sulaman) has been appointed organizing secretary.

On the Supreme Council are Datuk John Ghani, Datuk Monggoh Orow, Mail Balinu, Itoh Manggong, Biou Suyan, Ismail Banaran, Stephen Michael, Liberty Lopog, Maruddin Suabon, Paul Kadau, Edwin Ambu, Maurice Awit and Herman Mianus.
