Rise in number of flood victims in Negeri Sembilan; Johor hit again

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims in Negeri Sembilan and Johor has risen to 133 people as the southern state has again been hit by flooding.

The National Security Council (MKN) flood portal said Negeri Sembilan recorded 112 victims from 27 families while Johor has 21 victims from six families.

The Negeri Sembilan victims were evacuated to Sekolah Agama Rakyat Felda Jelai 4, Gemas while those in Johor were put up at Balairaya Spang Loi and Balairaya Kampung Awat in Segamat.

Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage urged people in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Pahang, Sarawak and Kedah to be on alert as the rivers are above warning level.

The affected areas are near Sungai Bernam at Jambatan SKC, Hulu Selangor, Sungai Selangor at Rantau Panjang, Kuala Selangor, Sungai Serting at Serting Ulu, Jempol, Sungai Muar at Pekan Rompin, Gemas and Sungai Rembau at Titian Bintangor.

Other areas are Rembau in Negeri Sembilan, Sungai Muar at Buloh Kasap, Segamat in Johor, Repas Dam in Bentong, Sungai Triang, Bera in Pahang, Sarawak Maritime, Sibu in Sarawak and Sungai Chepir at Batu 5, Sik in Kedah.

As of 10.30am yesterday, Jambatan SKC at Sungai Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Sungai Selangor at Rantau Panjang and Kuala Selangor recorded readings of 18.55 metres and 7.15 metres.

Sungai Serting at Serting Ulu, Jempol, Sungai Muar at Pekan Rompin, Gemas, Sungai Rembau at Titian Bintangor, Rembau were at 73.88 metres, 34.47 metres and 6.45 metres while Sungai Muar at Buloh Kasap, Segamat was at 9.00 metres.

The portal said Repas Dam, Bentong and Sungai Triang, Bera recorded 113.67 metres and 33.94 metres, Maritime Sarawak, Sibu at 2.78 metres, Sungai Chepir at Batu 5, Sik in Kedah at 32.89 metres. —Bernama
