Sabah pair win bintang P. Ramlee singing competition final

KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah’s pride, Fairuz Misran, 27, and Azeini Abang Ismail, 23, emerged winners in the national Bintang P. Ramlee 2012 singing competition final.

The duo’s rendition of ‘Hancur Badan Dikandung Tanah’ and ‘Barang yang Lepas Jangan Dikenang’ beat 10 other rivals to a RM30,000 prize, home theatre set, certificate and trophy presented by Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The second prize went to Sarawak’s Merazan Mechand and Masitah Mohd Airani, which comprised RM20,000 cash, while East zone pair, M. D. Wahidul Zaman and Sh Fatimah Azzahraz won the third prize of RM15,000 cash.

Best Performance went to South zone contestant Mohd Radhi and Norhasima Kadir who also took home RM15,000 cash.

The biennial competition organised by RTM Sarawak, with the cooperation of the Sarawak Government, was held at Auditoriun Perdana, Angkasapuri here Monday night and was broadcast live over TV2. For the first time, participants from Singapore, Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia also took part in the competition.

Singapore was represented by Yusri Hashim and Rabiah Hassan, Brunei Darussalanm by Awangku Shahminan Pangeran Ahmad and Siti Noriana Munap, and Indonesia by Hendri Abdul Hamid A. Pato and Wulandri Muhd Nasir. –Bernama
