KAMPAR: Two men who went fishing and fell into a disused mining pool near the Kampar market two days ago have been found drowned.

The body of one of them, G Murugiah, 47, was found floating in the pool at 11.13pm on sunday and that of the other, M Munusamy, 51, was found at 7.20am yesterday, Kampar Police chief Supt Ng Kong Soon said.

He said the bodies were found by Fire and Rescue Department personnel who launched a search-and-rescue operation soon after being informed of their disappearance.

The bodies of the two men, who had been working as sundry shop assistants, were sent to the Kampar Hospital, he told reporters.

Ng said Murugiah and Munusamy and another man, P Selvamani, 43, had gone to the mining pool, about 300 metres from their home in Kampung Labu Kuchi, to fish at about 4.30pm on Saturday.

“Murugiah, who was fishing with a net at the edge of the pool, suddenly fell into the water. Munusamy tried to rescue him but he also fell into the pool,” he said.

Selvamani also tried to assist but failed and immediately contacted the Fire and Rescue Department, he said. — Bernama
